More specifically, we would like to examine:
i) how women become involved in the traditional medicinal informal sector,
ii) the socio-economic impact of these informal gender enterprises on local women in terms of income and social empowerment,
iii) how the current practices of women selling Jamu are anchored in ancient traditions and reconciled with new market demands, and
iv) the possible interlinkages between formal and informal economy centered on herbal medicine, as well as the possible challenges arising from these interlinkages.
