Theoretical Approaches:
The theoretical approach used in this research attempts to bridge classic theoretical divisions between cultural and economic sources of explanation, macro and micro-levels of analysis and male versus female experiences of entrepreneurship by combining different theoretical approaches drawn from sociology, economy, and anthropology.
More specifically, this research program will draw upon and contribute to the body of theory of feminist studies, institutional economic theory, and critical medical anthropological approaches (CMA):
More specifically, this research program will draw upon and contribute to the body of theory of feminist studies, institutional economic theory, and critical medical anthropological approaches (CMA):
Feminist Theory:
An epistemological shift and an expansion to include the relationship between female entrepreneurs and their context is necessary to amend the biased vision of gender entrepreneurship.
Institutional Economic Theory:
The theoretical amplitude of the institutional economic theory is ideal for the objective laid out for this study, and will be therefore used as the theoretical backbone guiding the socio-economic analysis of the project.
Medical Anthropology Theory:
Critical medical anthropological approaches (CMA) have been the bridging of experiential and critical approaches into a theoretical framework known as critical phenomenology, which examines how macrolevel processes of power and political economy are experienced at the microlevel by the individuals and communities they affect.
